Bridge deposit quotes have no standard expiry
A bridge quote’s timer is set by the service and may expire before its deposit address does, so check the deadline, rate terms and order status before sending funds.
Bridge deposit quotes do not have one standard validity period: each service sets its own deadline, and a price lock can expire before the deposit address does. A quote is an estimate of the amount you will receive; it may be locked only briefly while prices and fees move. RenBridge’s 2026 Bitcoin status is a separate question, covered in RenBridge’s 2026 Bitcoin availability. For any bridge, read the timer and terms shown for the specific transfer.
How long does a bridge quote stay valid?
It stays valid for the period the service sets, which can be short. For example, Relay’s support page says pricing for its deposit-address route is guaranteed for 30 seconds after the user starts the bridge. After that, the price may change with market or gas costs. That is a service-specific rule, not a standard for all bridges.
The timer matters because a deposit can take time to broadcast and confirm. If the quote expires while the transaction is pending, the service may recalculate the amount you receive or require a fresh quote. The exact result depends on that service’s terms. A countdown on one bridge cannot tell you how another bridge handles a late deposit.
Does an expired quote mean the deposit address has expired?
No. A quote’s price deadline and a deposit address’s lifetime can be different. An address may still detect a payment after the quoted rate has expired, while the service applies a new rate or follows another stated process. In RenVM’s client documentation, gateway addresses are described as not currently expiring; the same document describes a planned change to time-based cycles. That shows why it matters to check which rule applies to the specific route and service.
Before sending, look for these details in the bridge screen or order record:
- The quote expiry time and whether it locks the exchange rate.
- Whether the deposit address has its own expiry or deposit deadline.
- What happens if the transaction confirms after the quote expires.
- Whether the amount must match exactly or meet a minimum.
What should you do if the timer runs out?
First, check the order status and the transaction on the sending network. If you have not sent funds, request a fresh quote and verify the asset, network, amount and destination again. If the transaction is already sent, do not assume the funds are lost or that the old rate still applies. Check the bridge’s instructions for late deposits and contact its support with the order details if the status is unclear.
The practical rule is simple: treat a quote countdown as a deadline for its stated price, not as proof that the address itself will stop working at the same moment. Only the bridge’s current instructions can tell you what happens after either deadline passes.
