Check the checkout before bridging Polygon funds to Ethereum

Polygon funds may work at Ethereum NFT checkout without a manual bridge; when they do not, move matching assets across chains and keep ETH for fees.

Check the checkout before bridging Polygon funds to Ethereum

To use Polygon funds for an Ethereum marketplace purchase, first check whether checkout accepts payment from Polygon; if it does not, move the required asset to Ethereum with a bridge. A wallet can hold the same kind of token on both chains, but each balance stays on its own network. Switching the network shown in your wallet does not move the funds.

Can Polygon funds pay for an Ethereum purchase directly?

Sometimes: some marketplaces let you pay from one chain for an item listed on another. At checkout, look for Polygon funds among the eligible payment tokens and read the amount, fees and exchange rate before signing. The marketplace may convert the funds as part of the purchase, so you do not need to bridge them first.

Availability depends on the marketplace, listing and token. A purchase may be ineligible, or the token you hold may not be supported. For example, a marketplace may accept one stablecoin but not another token with a similar name. A fuller guide to using the Polygon Bridge for an Ethereum purchase covers the route in more detail. If checkout does not offer a cross-chain payment, you will need to move the funds yourself.

How do you bridge funds from Polygon to Ethereum?

A bridge moves value between networks. For Polygon PoS funds, use a bridge that supports both Polygon PoS and Ethereum, then select the token and direction: Polygon to Ethereum. Check that the destination is Ethereum and that the receiving token matches what the marketplace accepts. Confirm the amount you will receive after fees before approving the transfer.

The Polygon PoS bridge returns bridged tokens to Ethereum by burning the Polygon version and releasing the matching tokens on Ethereum. Other bridge routes may work differently and can use liquidity providers, who supply funds to speed up transfers. Compare the quoted fee, exchange rate and expected wait. Keep some POL on Polygon for the send, and ETH on Ethereum for the receiving steps and later transactions.

What should you check before signing?

Check the network and token at each step. A wrong chain or unsupported token can leave you without funds you can use for the purchase. Marketplace checkout can also show a different total from the item price because of network fees or a conversion rate.

  • Confirm the listing is on Ethereum and note its accepted payment token.
  • Check whether checkout accepts your Polygon balance before opening a bridge.
  • If bridging, verify the source and destination networks, token and final amount.
  • Leave enough POL and ETH to cover fees on both networks.

For most buyers, the better first move is to try the marketplace’s eligible cross-chain checkout: it avoids a separate transfer. Bridge manually when checkout cannot use your balance, and review the quoted route before signing.
